Elise recently retired after 35 years with Twin Cities Public Television. During those 35 years, she managed tpt’s volunteer program, directed the development of tpt’s UHF sister station and established and directed tpt’s award winning planned giving program. She was also a part time community college instructor for over twenty years and co-authored the book Creating Choices.

The mother of two and grandmother of two, she lives in Minnetonka with her husband Steve and golden retriever Lucy.

TPT has a outstanding tradition of local and national historical coverage. Elise is especially excited to join you for this fascinating tour.

Daily Itinerary Items

Day 1 : Fly to Boston
Upon our arrival on the East Coast, we check in for a three night stay at the Embassy Suites Boston/Waltham.


Day 2 : Boston City Tour & Quincy Market
This morning we journey back in time to the colonial era as an expert local guide introduces us to the historic and cultural sights of Boston. Our lunch stop is at one of America’s most famous shopping and dining complexes, historic Quincy Market. Then we make our way to the Nichols House Museum to engage in exhibits about everyday life in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries on Boston’s iconic Beacon Hill. Later we visit the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum featuring an art collection of world importance located in a replicated 15th-century Venetian-style palace. Our Tour Director hosts a special welcome dinner this evening. B,D


Day 3 : JFK Library & Boston Cream Pie
his morning we visit the John F. Kennedy Library where exhibits and a documentary film acquaint us with the political career and family life of one of our country’s most remembered presidents. Lunch today will be a special treat at the Omni Parker House, the inventors of the state dessert, Boston cream pie. Later we visit the Boston Tea Party Museum where we’ll meet colonists, explore the ships and toss tea overboard just as the Sons of Liberty did. Our final visit of the day is to the USS Constitution Museum to learn about “Old Ironsides” iconic place in our country’s history. B,L


Day 4 : Franconia Notch State Park
Keep a watchful eye and camera ready as we meander through the Mt. Washington Valley, nationally recognized as one of America’s most scenic areas. Its quintessential New England landscape features lush foliage, mountain brooks and covered bridges that stand as nostalgic reminders of simpler times. Today’s highlights are a lunch break in charming North Conway, with its unique Victorian train depot; stunning views and photo stops while traveling along the rugged mountain valleys of Crawford and Franconia Notch. These popular state parks allow visitors access to numerous walking trails, scenic viewpoints, waterfalls, and spectacular mountain views. Our accommodations are at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Lincoln, New Hampshire. B,D


Day 5 : Squam Lake Cruise & Castle in the Clouds
his unforgettable guided tour has something to delight everyone. Learn about the natural history of the lake, the wildlife that makes Squam so special, and the people who have enjoyed these lakes for over 50,000 years. View locations where the movie On Golden Pond was filmed over 30 years ago. Later we visit the spectacular moun- taintop setting of the “Castle in the Clouds.” Perched high in the Ossipee Mountains, this extraordinary property is accented by beautiful gardens and panoramic views of autumn landscapes. We enjoy a drive along the scenic Kancamagus Highway before returning to our picturesque overnight accommodations. CB


Day 6 : Woodstock, Vermont
Resting on the edge of the Green Mountains in the heart of Vermont, we enjoy leisure time in the quaint village of Woodstock, often described as “the prettiest small town in America.” Settled in 1768, it retains the charm of yesteryear with its traditional New England hospitality, covered bridge, stately homes and unique shops. En route to our accommodations, we break for a fun visit at The Apple Barn. Once a small roadside produce stand, this 300-acre orchard welcomes visitors with the sweet smell of freshly picked apples, the rich aromas of their Country Bake Shop and the most stunning scenery in Southern Vermont. Our overnight accommodations are at the Berkshires Fairfield Inn & Suites. CB,D


Day 7 : Norman Rockwell Museum & Shaker Village
Joined by an expert local guide, we learn of Stockbridge’s rich history and the many charming attributes of this picture postcard town that Norman Rockwell affectionately referred to as “the best of America, the best of New England.” His treasured home in the latter years of life, we visit the museum that bears his name and experience first-hand the life, art and legacy of this beloved artist. Later we receive a warm welcome at the Hancock Shaker Village. Our visit includes an authentic Shaker meal and a guided tour providing a fascinating insight into their passion for community and commitment to historic preservation. CB,L


Day 8 : New York City
A new adventure beckons as we trade nature’s panorama for the diverse cityscape of “The Big Apple.” A narrated city tour by a local guide acquaints us with such iconic landmarks as Times Square, Greenwich Village, Chinatown and 5th Avenue. Our accommodations are at the Sheraton New York Times Square. CB


Day 9 : Broadway Musical
oday we climb aboard ZEPHYR, a one-of-a-kind stylish yacht, for a one-hour cruise and the opportunity to view the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Brooklyn Bridge and the Empire State Building. Next we’ll go behind-the-scenes on a tour of Radio City Music Hall and get an insider’s view of the most iconic theater in New York where the biggest names in show business perform! The remainder of the afternoon is free. Tonight, we enjoy a memorable Holiday Vacations farewell dinner followed by a Broadway Musical. D


Day 10 : Fly Home
We return home with fond memories of our scenic New England vacation.
